Salary: £40,800 per annum

Full Time: 40 hours per week

Based at Albert Road Depot, Bristol, BS2 0XS with work also taking place at our Avonmouth and Days Road Household and Recycling Centres

 

ABOUT US

Bristol Waste Company (BWC) is responsible for refuse and recycling collection, street cleansing and waste disposal for the people of Bristol. We also run the city’s two Household Waste Recycling Centres plus a growing Commercial waste business. We are seeking to recruit an Operations Manager (Processing) to join our team based at Albert Road Depot.

THE ROLE

The post holder will safely and effectively manage the operation of our Transfer Stations and our two Household Waste Recycling Centres. The role of the Operations Manager is to ensure that all received materials is processed and disposed of efficiently, economically, adhering to health and safety and environmental compliance.

 

Duties also include leading an accountable performance and safety culture across the organisation and contributing to a positive and safe working environment for all processing staff. The post holder will oversee the management of all processing sites and ensure that all sites and equipment are operated in a safe and legal manner in full compliance with all relevant legal and BWC requirements as well as monitoring the cleansing and maintenance schedules of both mobile and fixed plant sites.

The post holder must be continuously driving best practices so that we are always improving upon performance and productivity. Your leadership and line management skills are paramount and your coaching and mentoring will help develop the team, improve employee engagement and improve overall performance of the operation etc.

Requirements: It is essential to have experience managing a Materials Recovery Facility (MRF), processing plant, Household Waste Recycling Centre. Experience with health and safety management in a unionised environment and a  proven track record as a manager in a waste management or process led environment is also imperative – specifically with respect to successfully carrying out:

  • a service delivery role;
  • the controlling and monitoring of budgets;
  • the resourcing, motivation and development of a team;
  • the management of change and performance improvement; and
  • implementation of maintenance management system.

The successful candidate must have a Certificate of Technical Competence, Level 4 in Waste Management or equivalent experience (training will be provided) as well as a good knowledge of existing and impending environmental and health and safety legislation and relevant waste management laws.  Finally, the successful candidate will have clear commercial acumen, excellent communication skills, including presentation, negotiation and consultation skills, demonstrable IT skills (particularly in Microsoft Excel, Outlook and Word) and holding a current driving licence, valid for use in the UK.
