Senior Operations Engineer (Biomass and Waste to Energy Power Plants)
Our client is a new Independent Power Producer that is investing in the UK’s largest portfolio of biomass and waste to energy power plants. With over 100MW of operational and late-stage construction assets in the current portfolio, and a further 200MW in the pipeline, the company is on course to make a significant contribution to the development of the UK’s low- carbon economy, by diverting over 1 million tonnes of waste from landfill and generating enough electricity for half a million homes.
A new vacancy has arisen for a Senior Operations Engineer to play a key role in supporting the operational assets and operator to ensure the assets are safe, reliable, available and efficient.
You will ideally have several years’ operational experience in energy from waste plants and/or biomass power plants. You will be required to understand and help optimise operational systems and resolve operational problems on multiple plants where fuel sources range from recycled waste biomass to broader waste derived fuel streams. The assets involve a variety of technology from solid fuel handling, gasifier burning and traditional grate boilers, steam turbines, generators, HV and LV systems and control systems. You should have a good technical understanding of waste and biomass handling processes and operations including collection logistics, treatment plant operations and materials handling and storage together with a commercial understanding of waste and biomass sector drivers. Experience in dealing with the Environment Agency and planning authorities would also be an advantage.
In this role, you will need to be comfortable working in a rapidly changing and developing business with experience of self - managing your workload to deliver against a complex range of objectives.
Reporting to the Operations Manager, the role will be based in the most appropriate location to support the client’s core assets. However, the job holder will be expected to spend significant time in other locations in the UK, including the client’s Head Office in the South East, as needed with project counterparties, advisers and suppliers in the wider renewables/energy from waste sector.
This is a permanent, full-time role.
