Senior Transfer Station Chemist

Our client offers a recycling and waste management service that enables waste producers from all industrial and commercial sectors to manage their waste, from collection to recovery.  Due to expansion, a vacancy currently exists for a Senior Site Chemist to work at the company's hazardous waste transfer station in the North.  The main purpose of the role is to ensure waste and recycling materials are progressed through the site in a safe, timely and value added manner and to train and manage operationally the site chemists. Key duties will include:

·         Managing a small team of chemists in all aspects of acceptance and compliance and waste processing

·         Managing all aspects of waste acceptance and ensure it is completed according to procedure, accurately and methodically.

·         Booking waste for disposal and looking to find new outlets

·         Reporting non-conforming wastes immediately and ensuring customers are surcharged where necessary

·         Sampling, testing and determining the nature of some wastes

·         Striving to add value to all materials entering site with a focus on container maximisation and correct waste routing

·         Working closely with the Site Manager, Technical Manager and operations to improve and create new procedures

·         Being proficient on company software with training, creating reports for management

·         Striving for continuous improvement at all times

·         Being an active member of the site H&S Team driving improvement and implementing best practice.

·         Being available to visit customer sites for advice and packing of laboratory chemicals

Areas for particular attention include:

·         Must have a strong H&S attitude

·         Have a thorough knowledge of the site licence

·         Have a thorough knowledge of the waste industry, both treatment and transfer options

·         Ensure waste is dealt with in an expedient manner and difficult streams are prioritised

·         Ensure operators are working in a safe manner and in accordance with procedure

Specific requirements for the role:

·         Qualified to HNC/Degree in chemistry or related subject

·         Have at least 2 years’ experience working in a transfer station or similar environment

·         Full clean driving licence

·         First aider (Preferable)

·         IOSH trained  (Preferable)
