Project Engineer (Energy from Waste)

Our client is one of the UK’s leading waste and resource management companies, with over 200 facilities and 4,200 employees across the UK.

A vacancy currently exists for a Project Engineer to play a vital role in delivering equipment and process upgrades, supporting plant maintenance strategy, and driving operational excellence at one of the company’s Energy from Waste (EfW) facilities in Kent. You’ll lead the development, planning, installation, and commissioning of projects that increase plant reliability and performance.

Candidate Requirements:
We’re looking for a proactive and experienced engineering professional who thrives in a high-performance environment. You will have:

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in Energy from Waste, Power, or similar heavy industries
  • Strong project management skills, ideally with MS Project experience
  • In-depth knowledge of steam turbines, generators, pressure systems, and NDT
  • Experience with Maintenance Management Systems and statutory inspections
  • Degree-level qualification (or extensive equivalent experience)
  • IOSH or NEBOSH safety accreditation
  • Excellent organisational, planning and communication skills
  • A team player who can also deputise for senior team leaders when required

Main Duties:

  • Delivering capital projects from concept through to commissioning
  • Managing contractors and overseeing project safety and performance
  • Supporting plant outages, including planning and execution of work
  • Developing the site’s Maintenance Management System
  • Enhancing maintenance strategies to improve plant availability
  • Ensuring compliance with all health, safety, and environmental legislation
  • Mentoring and supporting maintenance technicians and apprentices
  • Driving improvements through root cause analysis and process development

This vacancy is for a full-time position, working five days per week.
